Anyway, sitting here at home, makes me want to tell the tale of Wood Nymphs on Lake Wedington trail. Vorp Standoff and I had planned a rainy day of caching the lake caches which include Cardinals triangulation cache Woody. I think I got me poison oak on the side cache TIMBER!!!
So we are heading to the 2nd tri cache called Dick Martin memorial, and so far we have seen 2 deer, a mommy and her fawn, and a turtle on the trail. Remember this is a rainy day and it is rather spooky deep in these woods on an cloudy day. I was asking Vorp if he had seen Blair Witch project. He hadnt, but he's seen every Star Trek there is.
Well we come up on the Dick Martin meadow where Cardinal and his friend Mr Martin used to camp. The meadow sits up a hill to our left and the trail passes it going down into a valley with a crick at the bottom.
Our GPSr is pointing us to this crick. As we descend the back side of the meadow drops off revealing a spring where the crick is coming from. As we approach the opening to the spring a very tall wood nymph and his girlfriend appear in front of us emerging from the vicinity of the spring.
At first I think it is 2 girls, but later we think it is a guy with long hair and a girl. The tall one has a very long towel wrapped from chest on down. We think we walked upon some au naturale activity in the woods.
So, Vorp goes "Hello, yo'all geo-caching" with a southern acent. The tall one says "ummmm, no" with a what-in-th-heck-is-geo-caching look on its face. Then Vorp says "Are you hiking?" They kind of hesitate and say "uh yeah were hiking".
We go on up the trail, a little bum fundled to say the least, because the cache we need to find is right where they were!!!! And we were never expected to see anyone out here!! Vorp wants to continue on, but I didnt come all the way out here, almost 2 miles so far, and just walk past a cache!!! No way buddy!!
I get him to stop, and I sneak back down the trial the way we came and I get where I can see that our wood nymphs are now up in that meadow putting theyre clothes back on. And No I couldnt see anything, just arms going up in the air like when you put your shirt on.
After what seems like an eternity they finally leave heading back the way we came from. I signal to Vorp to come on back. 10 minutes later I spot the cache and it was 40' from where the nymphs were playing!!! LOL!!!
Its now almost 4 pm. We need to book it back out up the trail the way we came in to the truck to go to the 3rd leg of the triangulation. What was weird is there were no other cars park at the trail head when we entered. It took us probably 30 minutes to get back to the truck, and the weird part is we never caught up with nymphs!!
We got some water jumped in the truck and headed for the third cache, found it and then an hour later we triangulated into the Woody cache.
These are a very fun series of caches you have to check out if you havnt already! Ours was extra special because you don't see wood nymphs in the woods very often!
Hope you enjoy the read... back to football and propping my leg up.
Cheers!!
