Who, how, where, etc ?

If it's about geocaching -- Let's hear it

Who, how, where, etc ?

Ok, so far I've had no luck getting any helpful answers over at GC.com. Since you guys have been so helpful so far with my newbie questions, I figured I'd try here. :P Lucky you. grins

I'm up to 41 finds now (Yay me! lol), and want to start placing a few caches when I get good ideas (have one in mind atm) but, I'm not sure who to ask for permission, how to go about it, or where to start. Does anyone have any examples I could use ? One of the places I'm definitely thinking about looking into tis Devil's Den. Other than that, I don' really have any ideas atm but, would like several ideas for different kinds of situations/locations if possible, for future use. :)

Thank you for your help as always! :)

Hiding caches can be a lot of fun. It can be difficult to locate landowners sometimes and the best I've heard of is going to your local courthouse and asking them for help.

State parks are a different matter. To place a cache you have to fill out a permit (it's simple) and then submit it for approval. Be sure to do that before you place the cache though. Just follow this link and it will explain more and also has the downloadable permit.

It's the same for the Ozark National Forest. Here's their permit.

You might also want to take some time and check out Geocacher University. There are a lot of helpful articles and even a brochure that you can print that helps when approaching a landowner. I know I've read every article several times and still go back often. Hope that helps. :D

Thank you! While waiting for a reply here or at GC, I searched for Devils Den State Park, and found the website. Then I went looking through their rules and regulations. I did find their pages regarding geocaching, which kinda surprised me but, guess it shouldn't have. lol I printed out the permit and the rules for caching. Should I go to Devils Den and figure out where I want to place the cache first, to give them (who do I give the permit app to, or mail it in?) an idea of where I wanted to put it before ever submitting the permit app ? Tis so confusing for me! lol

Thank you for your help!

PS Oh! And I have printed off the brochure that explains geocaching. I keep six of them in the middle console of my car, just in case. hehe I'll take a look to see what other stuff they have over there that will help. :)

You'll definitely need to go and figure out where you want the cache placed first. That way you can give the coordinates as well as the general area on your application for a permit. As for who to contact I believe it is Harry Hornish but I may be wrong. Once you know I'd just bring it into the visitor center and ask who to turn it into. That's my plan anyway. I'm working on a cache there myself.

bleh One less spot for me to put my cache! :P I just looked earlier, and there's only two caches currently inside the park (green area). I won't be going to Devils Den 'til I get my new pack, and hopefully not after a storm. I hate walking those trails when tis muddy. hehe

By the way, the geocaching brochure has been available for download from the friendly folks at NWAC for months.

Just go here.
