What do you use?

Tips and questions regarding paperless geocaching

What kind of device do you use for Paperless caching?
I currently am using my Treo 680..but have since bought an iPhone and can't do it on it. So when I go caching I have to put my sim back in my old phone.

Currently, we're using an iQue3600 as a PDA and a laptop with GSAK as our paperless weapons.

Does the iPhone not have Palm or PPC capabilities? For that expensive a phone, it kind of bites that you have to switch SIMS around. On the other hand, you can get a palm cheap on ebay.

We use GSAK and a Palm Z22 as a PDA.

We are similar other than in name to *TnT*. We use a Gateway Laptop with GSAK, Google Earth, Garmin ETrex Legend and Cingular 8125 Smartphone with Cachemates. Got all the areas covered as needed. I wish we had a device that would do turn by turn navigation.

I always have my laptop with me and my iPhone so I can get online if I have too. The iPhone works the best since I can get online when I need too. Who needs a PDA when you can get online?LOL

I use "cacheberry" on my BlackBerry. It seems to work well.

Palm Z22 and the cachemate program. Fits my first and second criteria perfectly - it's cheap and it works :D I got mine refurbished from Amazon.com for $50. That and the print-out list from GSak so I can quickly check off what I have found (or haven't found).

I use the new geocaching app for the iphone (only works on the 3G). It's great - you don't even have to load caches - just pull it up from wherever you are and it will tell you what the nearest caches are along with the full description and recent logs. Compass feature also works like a handheld gps although it takes a little longer to "catch up" to you when you're walking than a regular gps. I have used it to cache several times by itself. I thought it was a bargain for $10.00.

We started with a Nuvia 200 then after about year (and only like 20 caches) we moved up to a Garmin OREGON 200 and love it!!! No need for paper with the OREGON makes it sooooo much easier. I usually keep the closest 800 subtracting all our finds loaded and it only takes about 5 min to refresh them each time you update it. The only complaint i have is making field notes on it. Its hard to type on the touch screen so most the time i just make a note and mark them found and edit it when i log them on geocaching.com they upload from the GPS to the sight really nicely were you have a chance to edit before submitting. I have used both the IPhone and the Android both work pretty good. My next phone will have the Android OS solely for the groundspeak app But i would rather use my Oregon for the hunt. The phones seem to be slow at times and have a hard time catching up when you are trying to Zero in on the cache.
