I started about 30 new geocachers today. Land Navigation (Land Nav) is a very big part of Army life. They teach it from day one. So is using a GPS. Nobody in my company knew about geocaching. It is an excellent opportunity to take playing and turn it into a military exercise. I did.
I showed my company how to use a Etrex, go figure that is what we have instead of the military issue. I gave a quick class on how to run it and then were off on some training runs.
The two training points I picked are the only two on Ft Leonard Wood. They're pains in the butt as well. From there they were on their own. Turn loose 4 teams of Humvees and 10 Etrexes and you can find nearly every point in Pulaski County in about 6 hours. I withheld the ones that qualify for FCC and went and got those, heh, heh.
I had guys who don't even belong to me joining my unit for the day to go out on this one. Guy's were climbing cliff's, bridges and having a grand ole time. One guy even found a Gerber in fairly good condition that apparently another cacher dropped while going for one of the cliff points.
I found some wilder points for them on the next go round. They asked if we could do this again. It will be a lot more difficult next time.
