puzzle caches?

If it's about geocaching -- Let's hear it

puzzle caches?

Postby red ink » Mon Nov 15, 2010 8:18 pm

Why is it I feel I need a Phd. to go caching in this day and time?
Puzzle Caches!

I am not an computer geek( in the kindest sense of the word) I have no mathematical
background. Whatever happeneed to the ammo attached to the given coordinates. :D

It seems I must project a waypoint with only two given factors! :o
These young bucks have me stupified with all the math and such that goes with it!

I own a $300.00 device that will do all that for me , yeah right. :?:

I am talking about a "walk in the woods with a decent clue and grab the ammo can at the coclusion. :D

When will the insanity stop? :o

Probably never. That is why I will be bringing tripe, headcheese, and and some kind of fungus
to the Meet and Greet

I guess instead of buying a $250 gps I should have splurged and spent $300 because mine won't project anything. All the computer puzzles are way above me. I struggle enough with just projections from one waypoint to another. Check out the Clarksville/Russellville area for the rash of puzzle caches that have come out down that way. Ashallond, Yazzman and myself are coming to the Fayetteville area around Thanksgiving to work on some puzzle caches. Wish us luck as I am sure we are going to need it.

For me, puzzles are a fun way to liven up a plain urban hide. As far as mine go, I'm always willing to walk someone through them with hints until they can solve it. I find it also fun to work on puzzle caches at times I just can't get out there and cache (knowing I can then grab it later). Sometimes I find myself working on puzzles from other states where I'm even sure I'll never end up to log the cache.
As for projections, my cheap $130 garmin etrex works great, but it took me a while to figure out how at first.

Please keep your fungus to yourself red :P

Still being considered new to the sport, I know I skipped all the puzzles when I started. As I got a little more confidence built up started working on some of them. Had some success and did enjoy them but there are some of them out there that I don't even know where to start trying to solve them. They are a nice break from skirt lifters but still hard to beat a good ammo can in the woods off a hiking trail.

I second what nicodemus3 says. I will walk anyone through solving my puzzles with hints. (at least once the FTF has been made). And yes Judy, your etrex will project waypoints just fine. Just download the online manual and it'll show you how. (although I don't consider triangulation/projection caches to be puzzles -- to me they're multi's and that's the way the Central TX approver published them when I was there).

I really do enjoy puzzle/ mystery caches.
Above staement was made in jest,I think I might have been born a generation late.
I learned to count on an abacus, way before 'tricity was invented.

In fact my next two caches will be puzzle caches.
So having said that, keep them coming.

I too enjoy a puzzle every once in a while. As long as it stays close to trig or algebra, but once to go into calculus and quanitative geometery I quit. It does limit the logs you receive if you hide one. But then I figure the people that do them, are true die hard cachers and will find anything you throw at them. I too didn't like them when I first started but have got a few of them under my belt now and will continue to try out the new ones as they come.

TNT you are certainly right about there being a difference between triangulation/projection caches and puzzle caches. I love the triangulation ones and my first one I did with a ruler and road map. I will tackle any kind of cache and appreciate the work people put into hiding them. Red Ink looking forward to your new ones.

I will offer help for all math puzzles in the tri-state area, with my new puzzlecachesolver-anator (cue evil laugh) with this I shall rule the tri-state area!

ok, enough references. The math ones don't bother me...cause, well, I'm a math teacher. (except for TNT's latest triska one....still haven't seen the solution on that one yet, I know the word, but just not the connection let)

anyway, the iphone has an app that will do projections and I've been shown a website recently that will do them as well.

But I will help on math ones.

(Judy, don't worry about the puzzles, I've got most of them solved or know I can get it solved this weekend...only like two I don't think we'll be able to do because of the traveling you ahve to do to get the info to solve it.)

Is that because they are such a pane?
Sorry I could not resist that one.

Of which Iphone app do you speak?
Now that I know I have a math tutor, you will most likely be hearing from me.
Thanks in advance for offering your services.

do an ipp search for "iGCT"... app should pop up called "Geocaching Toolkit iGCT" It will get you there pretty accurately, especially if the clue references a good landmark at GZ.
