Power Caching

Postby *TnT* » Sun Oct 05, 2008 7:31 am

Have you ever done any "power caching"? Have you ever gone out to see how many caches you could find in a single day? Did you have a goal in mind for the day, or did you just have a "good" day on that day? Tell us your story.

I didn't vote on the pole because we've never really "power cached." In meaning that we set out to find as many as possible. We used to have a goal in mind when we first started but inevitably we failed miserably every time.
This year we decided to change the way in which we hunted geocaches. We'd choose a destination and decide on a time to be there and then let the chips fall where they may. It drastically lowered the number of caches we found but the kids (Mom and Dad to) enjoyed it more.
As far as numbers I think our best day was in the lower 20's. It involved a series of geocaches along some FS roads east of Vandervoort.
The lowest would have been a trip to Charlton where we found only one. Normally on a trip we'll find an average of about 15. Considering it two days to log that many I think that's our magic number.
My wife and I are looking at trying to find out how many caches we can really find in a day. I like the planning that goes into a "power caching" trip. I'd like to set out and find 30 or more in one trip. Even if it took me over a week to log our finds.
Our last trip yielded 11 geocaches and 1 letterbox. We traveled a little over 150 miles to get that done. Think about that when you complain about cache density! LOL. We had a fantastic time though.
We have a camping trip coming up on the 25th. I'm going to try to find over 20 caches that weekend.
I'd love to hear any tips and tricks when it comes to power caching. Maybe I just need one of those fancy talking GPS's.

Highest number in one day from 12am to 12am tis 21 but, if you count a 24 hour consecutive period, highest tis 30.

September 5th at 730am I decided I was taking a caching trip to Fort Smith. I was on the road by 9am. After looking around Crazy Earl's for half an hour or so, I started looking for caches. I started out wanting to get at least 30 finds before heading back home. I did not find #30 'til 430am. I started back home after that but, had to stop on the way home to take a 30 minute nap before continuing. I finally got home at 7am, checked my email, and went straight to bed. I'd been awake for about 30 hours that day. lol

I would love to do more trips like that again soon.

My highest in one day is 41, but that includes event caches, at Clarksville or Cacheville 2007.

My best day was last weekend in Searcy when I found 64 all by myself on Friday. None of which were event caches. Those came on Saturday.

Back in May I had the chance to spend the day with no FANTASTIC guy known as woodwalker. I spent the day in Searcy and found 60 caches.

I probably could have found more, but it was not about the numbers. During the day I had the chance to have lunch with woodwalker and Gaddiel, stop by the homes of Geojeepers/Hondacacher, Ice Cream Man, Searcy Kid/Quiltingranny. Getting to visit with all of them was great.

I found some easy PNG along with some very nice hides. It was a fun and great day.

I have been on a couple of trips that might be considered power caching but I did not have a specific number in mind before I started. We did plan our trips where there were lots of caches in the area.
A couple of weeks ago a local cacher, maybe I should say the only local cacher and I went to the Camden-Smackover area and found 87 cache. We could have found more but most of these were out in the woods and the cords was not the best I have seen. We had to resort to the hints to find most of them. Still it was a fun day and I would recommend that area if you get a chance.
On a trip to Texas with rklmbl and woodwalker9 we found 91 caches and could have hit the 100 mark but we were all tired that day. Again most of these were out in the woods. Lot of fun creative caches, you never knew what to expect next.
As for the copy and paste topic, I think it took we two weeks to log all of the Texas caches and a week on the Camden caches. I just don't get in any hurry on my logging. I kind of have to be in the mood to write logs, so I just wait until I feel like logging to do so.

We usually go out and find 40-50 in a day but at GW4 i think we ended up with 125-140 in 24 hours. Man was that a long day.

That is a lot of caches! We succeeded in finding over twenty caches on our camping trip. I think our grand total for the weekend was 27!! WooHoo!

After my recent trip to Tulsa a couple weeks ago, I now have a new one day all time high ~ 44 finds in one day, from 12am to 12am! I found 89 caches that weekend, between 430am Friday and 12am Monday.

Postby Captain Crash » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:29 pm

the most finds in any one day has been 66 we have had at least 3 of these and we have even had a 100 find weekend. Our numbers could have been higher but we stopped for dinner. :D

We'll see. I'm planning on going there on the 15th after the Van Buren breakfast for a few days of caching. :)

Be sure to stay at the Best Western. Ask for the geocacher discount. GolfNutz runs it and there's even a cache in the lobby.

I wasn't planning on staying in a motel. I usually only have enough money for food and gas. I slept in my car when I went to Tulsa last month. lol
