Hey TnT

If it's about geocaching -- Let's hear it

You may be interested in the link below. I tried to register but their form is broken. Not sure if you knew about this site or not, but thought I would pass it along. If you are interested and the link does not work for you either, send me a note and I will pass it along when they contact me. I started my roommate on caching here. He is on the way home and may get his first FTF in Kuwait on the way home. This is yet another cache I was literally feet from (GC208FC) and could have easily claimed when I left on leave or when I came back.

A new cache was published in IQ today. (GC2456X) There is a chance I may get to get an FTF here. It is in Baghdad 47 miles from here.

The AF banned geocaching on my base just before I arrived. I am working with Security Forces to reinstate it. Some of the cachers that were here put some caches in places I cannot believe anyone in the military would dare publish a grid near. With the rules I have suggested for ensuring morons are not allowed to get a cache listed in sensitive areas, we may be able to cache here again soon.

Frankly I am amazed we are allowed to cache in Iraq at all. There are nearly 500 in a 500 radius from here. Had I bothered to check on GC on the way in, I would have finally broke the 200 mark on my first stop in Kuwait. One guy I noticed in some GC logs has nearly 250 finds just in Iraq.

I had looked at that site some time ago and wasn't really interested. Maybe at a later date.

Frankly, I'm surprised any caches were ever allowed on the base over there. Caches on or near military installations aren't allowed per the groundspeak guidelines, but as its another country, who knows what the reviewers guidelines are. I would be uncomfortable if there were target coordinates published near me. Of course, off base probably isn't a whole lot better. Who knows if its a geocache, or a UXO?

In any event, keep your eyes open and your head down. We'd like to see you get back in the same condition in which you left.

Well, everything is already available on google earth anyway. Their targeting is less than spectacular. The only thing that would really concern me would be if they weren't aiming at me. Yeah, I was a little surprised by bases caches as well. Some of the caches on bases here are command sponsored and others are MWR sponsored. There are caches on CONUS bases but not that many.
