Entering an updated zip file into GSAK

Postby CAKnowles » Thu Oct 29, 2009 5:47 pm

Can someone tell me the correct procedure in updating a zip file into GSAK. Right now I have been deleteing the way points before I bring the new file into the existing database. Is there another way to do this?

The way you're doing it is probably the only way to ensure you have only active caches. Unfortunately, groundspeak doesn't include cache archivals or archived caches in pocket queries.

Personally, I don't worry too much about that. I just load the new gpx file and let it update the caches that are already there.

What some people do is filter on caches that haven't updated in a certain period -- say 1 month-- and delete those. At least then, your database is reasonably assured of having mostly active (non-archived) caches.

The benefit to loading the new PQ over the current database is that you'll soon have more than the 5 logs that come in a PQ which has proved to be a lifesaver for us on more than one occasion. Sometimes, that 6th or 10th log back (sometimes even a DNF) gives you the clue you needed to find a cache.

If I can help in any way with GSAK, let me know. I'm quite familiar with it.

Thanks a bunch. Guess I'll continue to delete then load the new one in. That way I have the most recent ones in there. i have recently started loading more and more caches into my Garmin. And have found that by moving them from the internal memory to the SD card I can load more than 2000 caches into it now, but for some reason you have to load them into the internal memory first.
