Deleted FTF log

Postby Jffok » Sun Jun 28, 2009 8:00 pm

During the night two new caches posted in Oklahoma near my area. I saw the posts at 4:30 am and got my stuff and headed out. I found the first one GC1V7KV by 5:15 AM. I had posted the FTF log at 6 AM.
This was a brand new nano and new log and the cords were within 6'. The owner of this cache deleted my log and sent me an email saying I had found an old log. I knew this was not the case. I reposted my log but this time instead of a fun log I posted that I had found the cache, my log had been deleted and that I had found the cache in good faith, and I thought he should give me the FTF in the same good faith. I also notified General Disarray of the situation.
I then go the 2nd email from cache owner stating that he had changed the cache after I found it because it was too easy to find. He said he changed the container and would be happy to give me the namo for my trouble but not the FTF. I did not want the namo. Here is the email. The chuck you falla cache is now ready. I threw something together, but will be
replacing it in a few weeks. I apologize about the easy find, I didn't think the
reviewer would publish it so soon. I've deleted the ftf, how ever since you did
get up so early and found the nano, if you want it it's yours to re-hide since
it was my fault the cache was not ready. Just let me know and I can leave it
somewhere for you to come get or we could meet in fort smith somewhere. Thanks/
Then a few minutes later I got the following email.

I will honor the ftf. I apologize, I thought I'd have time today to go replace
the cache with the harder one I made last night, thus the 5 star rating. It
usaully takes 48-78 hours for a cache to post, so I thought I'd have the time
today to place the real cache seeing that I submitted it late last night. Not
only will I honor the find, I will give you the magnetic black nano if you want
it since I've replaced the cache with another nano. I threw the cache together
last night, and will be making it even better in a few weeks. Please just try to
go back and find the real cache. Also I have another two caches no one has found
yet, one at the strip club and one at the shell before you get on i40 in Roland
accross from the other truck stop. Another one of my caches is at the loves
truck stop in webbers falls, but it's already been found. I'm in fort smith for
the summer, so get ahold of me if you want the black nano, or let me know where
to leave it for you to pick up. Once again I apologize. Maybe we all can go
caching sometime before I go back to Texas? Check out my profile and video for
team low tech iPhone geocaching group trying to start.
It turned out that the second new cache that was posted was not even placed until some time today and he had already been looked for by two people.
I got the FTF but it is not a happy experience for sure. Opinions any one? Should I forward the emails to the reviewer? The name of this cache explains why he is not hiding them in Arkansas right now.

First of all, he can't "give you" a FTF. Only you will ever know if you ever got any First to Finds. It does sound like in the end he realized you'd done what you had said you'd done and let you have the smiley.

His whole explanation about 48 hours is nothing but BS. When submitting a cache, there's a box you have to check saying that its ready to go. If it wasn't, he shouldn't have checked the box.

Of course, the dude has all of 106 finds, so what does his opinion count for anyway.

My suggestion would be to just let it go. If the FTF means something to you, just put the check mark in the box in GSAK and you have it. What it says on the cache page means nothing. Your stats are for you and you alone.

That is true and your suggestion is the higher road to take. In geocaching and in life we should always try to take the higher road. His caches are not very popular here and that is a shame as we need more peoplel hiding good caches.

I have had few bad experiences with this cacher also. He seems to have trouble with accuracy and putting them in appropriate places. He has emailed me numerous times trying to get me to get his caches published for him in Arkansas. I have just decided to not look for his caches. It is a shame to complicate such a great game with trying to play mind games with the publishers and other cachers.

oh I know who this is. I'm so glad he's going back to Texas.

let's see what he did that I know.

1. The aforementioned issues with FTF's.

2. Posted at least 2 caches that were on private property and were later found to NOT have the building owner's permission. One was ok with it, the other was archived because he placed up on the overhang of the wall...above a 20 foot drop if you fell off the wall to get to it.

3. Got into it with Chuck Walla about his caches being archived after the aforementioned caches were brought to his attention (hence the Chuck You Walla cache)

4. Took at least two geocoins (one that I placed, the other of another cacher) took off all of the protective plastic, tags, info, and mission papers so he could cram the coins another of his caches, that he had completely modified when someone outed his cache after it showed up WAY after it was posted. I happened to go to the cache in question and saw how my coin was then. After he deleted my log (when I called him out on it) he then tried to blame the cache owner of the cache that I left the coin in, and then said it was just found that way (on the ground out of place, coin left but everything else missing). Pity I knew the other cache owner and traded notes. After I had him trapped in his lies, I just let it go. But yeah, problematic.

I've quit moving tradeables around FS until I know for a fact he's gone.

I recall this guy conntacting me and asking for me to submit a cache for him. He said because he is in texas most of the time it would be easier for me to get the cache approved. It didn't really make sense so I told him I was moving out of the area and was not placing anymore caches in NWA.
