Mount Magazine High Tech History Hunt

There is going to be a geocaching event at Mount Magazine State Park on Saturday, May 16th at 9am.

I just saw this event posted on GC.com tonight. Right in by back door! I hope I can make it. It sounds interesting. Below is the event listing description:

Teams of two people can compete in this race for prizes. Bring a GPS unit to search for clues that will lead to historic points of interests. Wear good hiking boots and carry water. Some of the terrain is rugged with rocks and brush. Meet at the visitor center in Mount Magazine State Park at 9 AM.

At 9 AM on Saturday, May 16th teams of two geocachers will receive coordinates which will lead to a clue box. It will subsiquently lead to a series of other clues. These clues are associated with a very important part of local history on Mount Magazine. The first three teams to complete the course will receive prizes.

Interesting. Who is this Don Simons (or Siimons), why has nobody ever heard of him before, and why can't he spell?

Don Simons is the park interpreter at Mount Magazine State park. I'm not sure about the spelling.

This sounds like something I might want to try also. I will see if I can make it that weekend. I too need to get the Park Cache and all the other new ones up there anyway.
