To trim, or not to trim?

If it's about geocaching -- Let's hear it

To trim, or not to trim?

Postby Gratefulldad » Tue Feb 10, 2009 1:23 pm

I was wondering if I should cut some of the thorn vines at a recent hide.
The cache is, GC1KCJT, B.E.WARE. When I placed it I knew there were thorns but didn't think they were that bad. So far just about every log has mentioned them. I don't want people to pass this one up just because of a few pokies. Anyone who has done this one have an opinion?

You put a smile on my face when I read the topic heading; I assume that was intended, and appreciate your humor.

I haven't gotten that particular cache yet, but would say don't trim the briars... all caches weren't meant to be equal, and by equal I mean easy to get to. While caching this weekend down at "the mother", I honestly felt primal by the number of throns I had to go through, giving out an occasional grunt while trekking through the evil little boogers. (In hindsight, wearing shorts was not a good decision)

The cache name, much like "the mother", should give cachers enough insight as to what they're getting into.

I wouldn't cut either. If you feel its necessary, up the terrain level or add some attributes.

I don't think we should do anything to change the natural locations of cache hides. Just let folks know there are thorns and let them make the choice.

I have found this one and I've been to caches that are much worse, so don't worry about it, it's a great cache, in town, and in the woods, love it.

Thanks all for your input. I didn't think the thorns were that bad. They just slow ya down a bit. I like the idea of keeping the area just as we found it. Being a boy scout leader we try to practice 'leave no trace'. If you start changing things, then where do you stop?
