TB Etiquette

Postby kegrif » Mon Sep 24, 2007 8:19 pm

What is the proper etiquette for TB's. If you take one do you have to leave one? I thought they wanted to move mass distances, so it would be okay to take them from a cache in order to further their journey.

Is that not true?

I dont think you have leave one if you take one. Frankly I dont see very many bugs when hunting, so i often dont have one to exchange. I think their goal is to move on, so i always take one if i find one. Am I wrong?

The only proper etiquette I'd subscribe to regarding TBs is -- if you can help them achieve their goal, take them. If you can't help them, leave them.

In other words, if you know the TB/coin wants to go east and you're going east, take it. Many owner of TB hotels post so called rules about "Take one/leave one". In my view, that's just so much BS.

If a TB doesn't have a goal sheet, go ahead and pick it up if you can move it. If it does have a goal sheet and you can't help it, leave it.

We had a TB once that wanted to get to a particular cache in WA. It had a nicely printed and laminated goal stating what cache it wanted to get to. It finally got to within a couple of miles, but before it could be recovered there it went missing. 6 months later, it shows up in Germany. Obviously picked up by someone who can't read.

This doesn't really answer your question, but I say "If you can help it, take it".

Take one , leave one? BS.

That is the only etiquette that should be followed with regard to TB's.

TB hotel owners with "rules" as well as other cachers behaving in the same manner have added to the confusion of many people by leading them to believe that in order to take a traveler you must leave one. It is total carp.

TB hotels should stay empty because all the cachers visiting are moving all the trackables. The only "hotel" we own states on the listing to feel free to empty the whole thing.

The only thing that I would add is try to post photos and write a good log when you pick up or drop off a trackable. We're guilty of not doing that much but have decided to really put forth an effort to correct that. 8)

It looks like this is pretty well covered. The only thing I can add is that a TB is NOT swag. It is owned by someone. Therefore there is no take one, leave one rule. If you can help a TB along it's way take it. Please try to drop it in another cache as soon as possible. I believe two weeks is the accepted maximum time to have the TB in your possesion.
although there is no actual time rule.
