Ozark NF permits

What is the procedure for hiding a cache in the Ozarks? Do you mail the application in or make an appointment with the nearest district ranger or what? I'd like to hide three or four, if approved, and would appreciate any advice anyone has.

The issue with the Ouachita NF permit hasn't been resolved yet and I'm expecting it to take a few months. I hope I'm wrong.

I was just wondering about the Ozark NF. I have a copy of the permit but I really wasn't clear on whether or not you need to take it to the local district office or what.

you can mail them in to the following address
U.S. Dept.of Agriculture
Forest Service
Ozark-St Francis National Forests
Boston Mtn Ranger Dist
1803 N. 18th St.
Ozark Ar 72949

I archived my Skull Rock Cache and Cove Creek this past Sunday,my permits are due next month, due to what is happening in your area I went ahead and pulled them, also I applied for three more permits for that general area and was denied about two months ago.On my drive thru there Sunday,I noticed several gates have been erected blocking off
several old roads, including the road to Skull Rock, also there is heavy tree
logging going on there, it appears they are taking the trees that did not survive the boring beetles, thanks to all that hunted those caches, also according to my notes I think your contact at the ONF is Gary Williams, that's who signed off on my permits. Thanks Red Ink

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that you can just mail them in. That will make it a lot easier. Did they tell you why they denied your permit?

It really saddens me to see Skull Rock and Cove Creek go. Those were excellent caches. Oddly enough I had an online interview with a reporter from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette yesterday for an article about geocaching that she was working on and I mentioned Skull Rock as one of our all time favorites. I hope that what is happening here in the Ouachitas will have no bearing on policy in the Ozarks. I'll remain optimistic about the outcome. Thanks again!

ONF

They did not give me a reason for the denials, and I did not ask. I am sure it was due to the logging that is presently going on,as the location I had picked out are in the immediate area.People can still visit the Skull Rock area and see all the neat rock formations. Chris,if you want to apply for that area, let me know and you can have my special container. Red Ink
