Poll: What's the closest cache to your home?

Postby ARLT1YJ » Fri Mar 20, 2009 3:29 pm

After caching for six months, the caches close to my home all seem to have check-marks next to them. So I thought, what's the closest cache to everyone else's home?

Take a moment to enter your address into the search box on the geocaching.com homepage and see what's the closest cache to your home. The cache needs to be active, not one of your own placements, and without a check-mark next to it to qualify.

If you want, post the nearest cache that meets these parameters, and please add your tally to the poll.

I haven't done much caching through the Winter months, and there's always new caches being placed. I think there's at least two or three within a mile of me that I do not own, are active, and that I have not yet found. I'll remedy that eventually. :) Cool thread idea.

Well there were two but I just got back from finding one. I'm in the 1-3 mile category.

Wow!! There are 20 caches a mile or less from our house including mine and everyone elses. When I started I remember there was only one less than a mile away.

An easier way to do this (so you don't have to do it every time) is to go to your "my" page on your profile and select the link for "Update my home coordinates" and put your coords there. Now, they're stored so you can just click on the link (on the same "my" page) that says "Search for nearest caches and filter our finds". Thus showing only the ones that aren't checked or yours.

The nearest one to me meeting the requirements of the poll question is "Side of the Rock", which I may never get around to logging.

What would be a more interesting question to me is: How many meeting the criteria are within 5 miles, 10 miles, 20 miles of your home?

The answer for me (excluding the event cache) is: 2 within 5 miles, the same 2 within 10 miles and 23 within 20 miles.

That's out of (including mine) 81 caches within 5 miles, 151 within 10 and 331 within 20 miles.

The closest unfound cache from my home is Ouita Dock Island, 2.7 miles away. The only reason I have not found it is because I do not own a boat.
There are a total of 4 that require a boat within 7 miles of my home.

I like how TnT listed his so I will do the same.

The answer for me (excluding event caches) is: 6 within 5 miles, 10 within 10 miles and 42 within 20 miles thanks to edieo.

That's out of (including mine) 166 caches within 5 miles, 252 within 10 and 450 within 20 miles. It's amazing to see just how many caches there are around here and I am about to add 20 or so more this week.

The closest cache to home that I haven't found is PLS #2 - A Cache for Cardinal. I've tried solving in twice, but give up after about ten minutes and frustration begins to set it. (I know it's similar to Purple Pelican, and I'll get it eventually)

The answer for me (excluding the event cache) is: 11 within 5 miles, 49 within 10 miles and 128 within 20 miles.

That's out of 45 caches within 5 miles, 136 within 10 and 291 within 20 miles.

Let's help out TnT and place some more caches around here, or else we need to buy shares in Exxon. I've got a serious case of cacher guilt in this regard, and need to place one asap!

Today I found three caches outside the 30 mile range, and have more or less left the closer ones for the weekdays.

Closest unfound by me is 1.1 miles, and I've DNF'd it twice, LOL.

Next closest is 1.8 miles but that doesn't count, it's the event for April 4th, LOL.
