Orphaned cache! Old Highway 71 Cache #1

Postby Gruizzer » Sun Apr 26, 2009 2:52 pm

HA!! On a cache run to Devil Dens with Vorp, we had just found the nearby the Baptist Ford Cemetery cache. Our print out of our list of caches didnt include the description, and we saw this was a puzzle cache and would probably need the description. But we thought hey lets just look anyway, it has to be on the bridge. So while Vorp is walking to coordinates to see if there are any clues there, I go start searching the bridge. You're not gonna believe this, but after looking a few minutes I found what I think is the cache complete with a log!! HA!

So I take back to the truck were Vorp is planning out the next cache to go to, and say dude I found it!! He's like NO WAY!! We open it to sign the log and notice no one has signed it in over a year!!! What? Vorp says maybe this isnt RIVET, and starts looking through all the log sheets. SURE ENOUGH it is not the RIVET cache, its Old Hwy 71 Cache #1. I guess it was abandoned by the owner. Poor little cache.

I dont know the waypoint code, and when I search by keyword it doesnt show up. I guess if someone wants a cache container, look on the left side of the bridge, third post down. Black Keyholder. Or maybe someone knows how we can log this?

I should get a special prize for founding an archived cache!

Maybe someone on here who has found it can help you out. Even though its archived, it can still be logged.

That's one of the areas where gc.com has taken a step backward over the past 2 years. You used to be able to see archived caches on the gc maps.

Now, unless you know someone who has found it, or who the owner is, you're pretty much out of luck.

I just found the cache also after about a fifteen minute search and when I finally located it I saw that you had already found and posted your log on it.

I was about to post the GC# for it, but I see you've found it. There are times that caches get strangely relocated and the owner can't find them to retrieve them!

I recently experienced this with one of Cardinal's caches in Fayetteville because I was hunting for caches off of an old Pocket Query mixed with a new pocket query in GSAK. He had archived it because he couldn't find it to do maintenance. After I posted a find, he was actually able to go check on it from the details I gave him about where it was and he re-enabled it :)

Owner was bhr1630, I'll email him see if he wants to go get. His last post says he gave up on it.
