OK Land Run

actmoritz and I did the portion of the OK Land run yesterday (from muskogee to cushing). We found 220 and DNFed 2 in 7.5 hours over about 100 miles. If you want to get lots of numbers in a short time, this is the way to go. Compared to the Americana Hwy power trail east of LR, this one is much better as the hides are closer to what you'd see in your everyday caching experiences. They weren't all thrown down at the base of a sign 530 feet from the previous.

One problem we did notice (and I'm sure its true for all power trails) is the lack of maintenance. Most logs were wet. Many containers were broken. We also noticed that one cacher in particular seemed to put out a new container every time he couldn't find the real container. There were dozens of locations where we found two containers. One from him and one the original. I just don't see how you can count it as a find if you never found it.

Anyway, of the two power trails I've done, this one was way better. Even the fact that they average a half mile apart was better. Although it suppressed the find count, it did give you a chance to get your breath from the previous one. Thanks to Clyde for version 8 of GSAK so they could all be logged in minutes.

I have done some sections of the OK Land Run and in fact the first 25 starting at Ft. Smith on the Ok/Ark line are my caches. I agree with you on the ones I have found, they aren't just all thrown down without thought. I got an email from a cacher on mine complaining that they were too hard and that I had added extra time to his trip. Oh well. But as far as the maintenance, I have done that three times on my 25 caches. I get posts from time to time that there are two containers at a location. I appreciate the logs being replaced if they are wet and the baggy torn. Also I am okay with someone replacing a container if it is busted or they are 100% sure that it is gone. I have a trip planned next week because I have several with full logs in them. But it is easier for me since I only have 25 of them. Several that hid, did two and three hundred hides. Glad you enjoyed your run.

We finally completed the Oklahoma Land Run except for the newest waaaay out west and thpart of the stretch between Gore and Sallisaw. So we are getting close. When we first started typing this rkl thought we were done with everything except way out west but he was reminded that we left off one day because of time constraints. So far we have made 4 trips. Would really recommend doing these caches during cool weather months. Overgrowth has been a problem the past couple of days....especially poison ivy, which is rampant this year. We do appreciate the cache owners who have place and continue to maintain their caches across Oklahoma. We've met people on the trail who ask what we are doing and we tell them there are geocaches from west to east across Oklahoma commemorating the historic Oklahoma Land Run. Seems to impress them and satisfy their curiosity.
