If it's about geocaching -- Let's hear it

Need some help

Postby red ink » Mon Mar 30, 2009 5:08 pm

I am in the process of setting a new cache, and I need some input.

I would like to know what your three favorite caches are in these catergories, or you cna recommend more.

Best micro/nano
Best urban hide, some kind of container other than micro/nano
Best puzzzle cache
Best multi stage
Most physically challenging cache.

I already have my list compiled, but will wait to see choices, I would like them to be close to NWA,say around 100-125 mile radius.

Thanks

I've been thinking about this for a few days, as there are so many to choose from. Hopefully, you've gotten some replies back.

best micro-nano: Its been so long since we've seen anything new in this category, I just don't think I could name one.

best urban non-micro: it's between your "park and grab" and "a tribute to the king" (since archived) down in clarksville

best puzzle: to me, a puzzle is one where you can solve the final coords before leaving the house. triangulation caches, which are the predominant "mystery" type cache around here aren't them, so I'd have to say tnt06's "The Apex" was one of my favorites (now archived)

Best multi: probably was holmesfam's "Visiting Some Friends" in its original configuration, although the layout (going past the same spot several times) wasn't that great.

Most physically challenging: Even though I haven't done it YET, I would say "Side of the Rock" by rddemps. It's possibly the only special equipment required cache in the area.

Well, that's what I have. Maybe, someday, the other users of the forums will chirp in with their thoughts.

Can't wait to see what you have planned.

First things first, you are the first to reply. Thanks for the comment on the PnG cache, but I will not be using any of my own caches, ecept for"the Mother

My reason is two fold, one to see what are the peoples favorite, and two
to see what I have been missing by not doing the caches they suggest.

Of course this will be an ALR, and to find and sign the log will be somewhat physical to most people. I have the location picked out,it will be an urban ammo can hide.

If others do not chime in, in a timely fashion, I will go with the two
you suggested and the ones I have previouly picked. Thanks

I don't think many of mine will meet the distance requirements but maybe they'll help.

Best micro/nano - GC13AEW Danville-Mickles Bowstring Bridge.

Best urban hide, some kind of container other than micro/nano- that's a little tough. Most are micro caches beside the road, or ammo cans beside the road. None of which are terribly exciting. I'll say GC1EYVR Wrong Order was pretty clever.

Best puzzzle cache - GCPCFG theCLB's Secret Stache. Easy puzzle but that one wins just for the WOW factor.

Best multi stage - GCXRYK Three Legged Dog. Great cache, great cacher.

Most physically challenging cache- Do I really need to say it? I do believe you were there.

ALR is "Additional Logging Requirement" . They're supposed to be listed with the "?" icon. They're any type cache where the description says you have to do something extra to get credit for the cache. Calliope's Challenge by oenavigators is one. Seuess is Loose by Gratefulldad should have been listed as one,

TnT, or anyone else for that matter, if you ever want to borrow my ropes/harness, I'd be happy to lend them to you, I'd even like to do this cache again. There'll have to be a handshake agreement that if anything goes bad, I won't be held liable though.

Jason,
It appears you and I have pretty much much the same list.

I will take you up on the offer for 'The side of the Rock"
with a handshake agreement of course. (then the litigation may occur).

Uh, OH, Ron. If you had in mind what I think you had in mind, it looks like you're going to have to rethink.

As of yesterday, ALR caches are banned. Read about it hereALR Caches Banned

This means that Calliopes Challenge is going to have to be changed too!!

Maybe you can get with Chuch Walla and figure out how your plan can be made into a challenge cache.

And no, this is not an April Fool's joke. The cache placement guidelines HAVE been updated. See the listing guidelines.

Well thanks for that early morning heart attack Mike! I read the updated guidelines and challenge caches are okay. Per the guidelines:

Challenge caches incorporate special logging requirements and are listed as Mystery/Puzzle caches. Typically they require the seeker to have previously met a reasonable geocaching-related qualification (Waymarking and Wherigo qualify too, of course) such as first finding a cache in every county in your state. If you are thinking of creating such a cache, please include a note to the reviewer demonstrating either that you have met the challenge yourself, or that a substantial number of other geocachers would be able to do so.

So sadly, it appears as if Calliope will still sit and wait patiently for the next geocacher worthy enough to have met her challenge.

I can't wait to see what you're cooking up now Ron. Now back to my little hole. 8)

I see your point. My first thought regarding Calliope was that it wasn't a challenge cache, but rather a ALR cache. Hopefully, you won't have to try to convince CW.

But, anyway, a little jump start now and again is go for the heart, no?

On the same note, Ron's idea may still work (assuming its close to what I'm thinking it is).
