My stupid car again...

Postby Howlingmoon » Sat Dec 06, 2008 11:01 am

I just got back from the tire place. I was going to get the flat repaired but, they said the tire was no good. Tis all eaten up inside somehow. They told me I needed an alignment, possibly new parts if any are bad, and ANOTHER new/used tire. I just bought that one and the other front tire a few months ago!

Add to the long list of things that I need to get fixed on my car, which includes but, isn't limited to: master cylinder replaced, back tires replaced, spark plugs changed (have new plugs and wires in trunk), new problem that has arisen since last month*.

* New problem with car... I'm driving down the road, and all of a sudden, the check engine light comes on, flashes three quick flashes, one long flash, then starts over. At the same time, the temp light comes on and flashes. While the lights are flashing, the car runs weird. I don' know how to explain it. And tis morn' when it happened for only the second time, I came home and stopped in the parking spot, put my foot on the brake, and the car was trying to still pull forward, then backing off, like the transmission still wanted to go or something. The only other time tis has happened was on the way up to Bella Vista for the WWFM on November 8th. I had stopped on the way up once that started, checked the brake fluid (master cylinder leaks bad), and had to add more fluid before going on. It didn't happen again 'til today. When I got home today, I checked the brake fluid, and it was really low.

I added more, and it hasn't done that again. I don' know what in the world's going on with me car but, I wish I could afford a newer/used one.

Any mechanics out there that could look at my car ? lol I can't afford these exspensive garages that are bound to take advantage of me being a woman that knows little about cars. And unfortunately my father's 2500 miles away.

Go to AutoZone, they are linked to Aldata, they have a decoder there and
usually retrieve the codes for free, As for the brakes,I would not drive it.
Loosing that much fluid, probably has filled the the vacuum booster filled or
could br front caliper/hose problem.

You should definitely get those brakes worked on ASAP. Like red ink said your lines are bound to have air in them which will need to be bled off.

As far as the rest of it, it would help to know what car it is you drive. I've always hated those stupid lights. They don't tell you anything. It could "possibly" be a computer problem.

Disconnect your battery for about fifteen minutes and then reconnect it. That should reset everything back to default. It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and change out the plugs and wires since you already have them.

I drive a 92 Olds Cutlass Ciera S. 6 cylinder.

My husband and his friend weren't able to get the plugs out last time they tried but, I don' think they had the right tool to get the wires off them either.

The master cylinder has a round part right in front of where you put the brake fluid, it just kinda stops there and looks like the end of a bolt or something ? I don' know anything about cars, obviously. lol Anyway, that's where the fluid's leaking from. Something about a seal that's broken.

I have one of those code readers that I need to get out and use. I just haven't done it. There are codes that keep getting spit out that have ALWAYS been spit out for the six years I've had the car. I think those were something to do with one of the censors somewhere.

I just talked to my father about the new problem, and he thinks it might be the locking torque convertor. I was having problems with the car stalling randomly. When I went under 30 mph, it would start stuttering like it would stall if I went too slow. The only way I could get it to start up again and actually go anywhere was to have a foot on brake and gas, pop it from neutral to drive, and let off the brake all at once. It'd "burn rubber" but, the car would run again. It hasn't done the stalling in a long time, though. ~knock on wood~

My parents had an Olds Omega back in the day, and that car would stall the same way mine has, and that one ended up being the locking torque convertor staying in the locked position or not locking. I can't remember which.
