I got a Nuvi 200 for Christmas

Postby Gruizzer » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:42 am

Got it for the SUV to mostly use when I travel out of town for directions. But I could use it to geocache too of course!

Wondering if anyone has one and uses for caching? And if there is software that can be loaded on it where it shows caches where ever you are, you know like you can do with cell phones that have GPS?

jjreds at the official geocaching forums wrote a macro to be used with Nuvi's and GSAK so you can use your new Nuvi for paperless geocaching. Look for the thread called Advanced Nuvi Macro.

Is it a standard, or wide nuvi? the standards are limited in their ability to be used for caching, as you can't look at your position real-time. That being said, if you're willing to click back and forth between a couple of screens, it can be used.

The wide screens, on the other hand, will display the satellite screen while you're looking. I know of one person who has a 200, we have a 250 which has the same limitations, and of course howlingmoon has hers (not sure which model) which she's used to make >500 finds.

As howlingmoon says, there is a GSAK macro that used with your Garmin POI loader will upload them to the NUVI.
