Bad news. I got pull over by the security of the Pinnacle Hills mall. Try to explain about Geocaching to the Officer and he was not familiar with it. He call the chief of security and he told me that he is familiar with Geo. and it should be done in the forest and not in a public place like this. Any caches in Pinnacle Hills don’t have Permission and he want them out and no Geocachers in this area. He ask me to contact the owner and cachers.

Excuse me, but isnt an OUTSIDE mall really like a park. The chief of security says not in a public place like this?!?! We are only suppose to get permission for private property. Heck if we can only put them in the forest... where will our sport go? This is a good case for always having you brochure handy to help show the benefits.

I think that's a road we don't want to go down. Many cities require permission to even hide caches in parks.

I think the argument could be made that the mall is private property, opened to the public for a specific purpose.

It's always best, if unsure, to ask permission.

On a similalr note, until lately cachers had blanket permission from corporate headquarters to hide caches at Cracker Barrell restaurants, but I've noticed discussions recently in the groundspeak forums the permission has been pulled.

Totally off topic but I found a funny picture posted by a geocacher named Prime Suspect. I really have no opinion one way or another about the series. I've never hunted one personally but I know a lot of people like them. This was just too funny.

Do you know any reason why this has been done?

As near as I can figure, it's a change in corporate policy. You can read all about it in the Groundspeak forums.

The mall in Fayetteville removed my cache earlier this year. I spoke with the head of security there and he knew what it was but didn't want it taking place at the mall. I don't think that he has the right to make that decision but I can't argue with him about it.
