Archiving a cache

Archiving a cache

Postby OEnavigators » Sun Oct 07, 2007 1:51 pm

Is it possible to archive a cache and then to re-list a different cache at the same location? I've got something to place and need to remove my cache to place something completely different there.

Yes, you can do that. But, why not just change the listing? Unless, of course, you want to give those who've already found it in its present form to be able to find it again.

I wouldn't make a practice out of doing it, but sometimes the perfect location for a particular cache is the location you've already used for another cache.

Now, however, those who've found the archived cache are going to know where the new cache is, so if its a special container or a puzzle, they have a head start on it.

I want to change it from a puzzle to a traditional. It's hard to explain without giving it away but I just got the okay from another cacher to place one and therefore it will be an entirely different cache. Will the reviewer frown on that though? She's pretty strict about everything and I can't find anything about it in the guidelines.

You could edit the listing for the current cache to make it a traditional instead of a puzzle. That would accomplish the same thing, wouldn't it? Or, is the puzzle not yours?

If not, it shouldn't be an issue. Caches are always being archived to make places for new ones.

Heck, I often see archival notes from reviewers along the lines of "since there is no cache here to find, I'm archiving it to make room for new ones"

You can not change it from a puzzle to a regular cache you have to archive it and then set a new one out

Just to throw my two cents in, for what it's worth lol. I have had my reviewer change a multi to a traditional for me.
I think therefore I am EVIL.................
